As a Technical Engineer at Voquent, I was initially one of only two developers responsible for making essential changes to the online application. Voquent specialises in connecting clients with professional voice-over actors and providing dubbing services. In this role, I was responsible for key tasks that improved server performance, user experience, and the overall functionality of our web platform. My work included server maintenance and optimisation, which directly contributed to better SEO rankings and a seamless user experience.

One of my initial tasks at Voquent was to completely overhaul the core functions of the website, both on the front end and the back end. On the front end, I collaborated with a web designer to present detailed information about voice actors in a user-friendly manner, allowing users to access essential details at a glance. This included a complete redesign of the main navigation, modelled after Airbnb's design, to ensure users could effortlessly select desired options.

On the back end, I rewrote major functions to enhance security and efficiency, adhering to OWASP guidelines. Additionally, I developed an audio API that adjusted the loudness of user-uploaded audio samples, which was crucial for our voice-over and dubbing services. My efforts in monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimisation significantly improved the platform's performance and user engagement.

I also developed a bespoke payment gateway with Stripe integration, tailored to our specific business needs. This system accurately calculated taxes based on user location, enabling efficient international billing and automatically generating invoices post-payment, thereby streamlining our financial processes.

In terms of website optimisation, I transitioned from an outdated jQuery framework to more efficient vanilla JavaScript, which improved site performance. My analytical skills were instrumental in optimising SQL queries for better data retrieval across multiple tables. We utilised AWS S3 buckets for managing and storing user-uploaded audio files, aligning with our core business operations. Furthermore, I implemented automated test scripts using Cypress, which enabled rigorous and consistent testing, enhancing the website’s reliability.

As a Full Stack Developer at Sercle, a financial technology company based in Glasgow, I was responsible for updating and improving the company's web applications. My role included writing code and using SonarQube to test and ensure that my work met OWASP security standards and maintained a positive user experience for clients of credit unions. Sercle provides these institutions with software and web applications to enable their customers to manage their finances effectively.
